Art in Our Environment - a public art project 2004/2005
The concept of Art in Our Environment was about local community members working together with three artists to produce a functional sculpture for their town.
The project was aimed at maximum community involvement and participation, culminating in the creation of artful amenities made by locals for locals.
There was a design competition; based on community feedback that was open to all members of the local community, with particular encouragement of youth participation.
Volunteers, who stood to gain skills, connection and confidence from their involvement in the project then, assisted in creating the winning designs and in the installation process. Sam was the project co ordinator and had much enjoyment seeing the projects become reality from community consultation and the conceptual stage.
These volunteers worked in with the three winning artists from three townships:
- Alexandra: Sheila Brennan with her native and farm animals that was placed in the children's playground in Rotary Park.
- Eildon: Bruno Torfs with his whimsical fisherman that was placed in the main shopping precinct in Eildon.
- Yea: Lisa Rudd with her Platypus reflectional seating that was placed in the Yea Wetlands.
